1. Who we are
24Ballot is a civic information and participation platform operated by RedSwan Private Limited ("24Ballot", "we", "us"). It helps users follow constituency updates, public records, civic maps, manifesto information, community spaces, messaging, and civic media.

2. What this policy covers
This policy covers the 24Ballot mobile app, the 24Ballot.in website, and related APIs. It does not cover third-party websites, app stores, identity providers, or map-tile/data services that operate under their own privacy policies.
3. Data we collect
- Account data — account ID, auth provider and provider subject, account status, timestamps.
- Profile data — display name, username, profile type, avatar, bio, website, organization name.
- Location and constituency data — location label and active constituency, used to show constituency-aware maps, feeds, and manifesto context.
- User-generated content — posts, news submissions, comments, and evidence or media references you submit.
- Media — photos or videos you choose to attach to posts, along with basic file metadata.
- Messaging data — thread and message identifiers, participants, message content, and delivery status for direct messages.
- Social graph data — follows, blocks, mutes, and related counts.
- Moderation data — reports, reasons, moderator actions, and audit records.
- Notification data — notification preferences, push tokens, platform and app-version metadata.
- Analytics and diagnostics — usage events, crash reports, and device/app metadata used to keep the app reliable.
- Security data — session tokens, rate-limit and audit records used to protect accounts.
We do not collect contacts, SMS/call logs, health data, payment card data, or advertising identifiers.
4. Permissions
The app may request, only when relevant to a feature you use:
- Location, to show nearby constituency information and map context while you're using the app.
- Camera and photo library, to capture or select media for civic posts.
- Notifications, where enabled and after you consent, for in-app and push alerts.
5. How we use data
- Create, authenticate, and secure your account;
- Provide constituency-aware feeds, maps, manifesto information, profiles, and messaging;
- Process media you choose to submit;
- Moderate content, respond to reports, and protect users;
- Send notifications where enabled;
- Analyze app reliability and product usage;
- Comply with legal obligations, election-period restrictions, and app-store requirements;
- Prevent fraud, abuse, spam, impersonation, and harassment.
6. Legal basis
For users in India, processing relies on notice and consent under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and on processing necessary to provide the service, secure it, and meet legal obligations. For users where the GDPR applies, our legal bases include contract performance, legitimate interests in security and reliability, consent for optional features, and legal obligation.
7. Sharing and processors
We share data with service providers who help us run 24Ballot, under agreements limiting their use of it:
- Error-monitoring and diagnostics providers (crash reports, device/app metadata);
- Authentication and database infrastructure providers (account and session data);
- Cloud hosting providers (hosted application data);
- Push-notification infrastructure (push tokens, platform, notification metadata);
- Map-tile providers (map requests and context);
- Object storage providers (uploaded media).
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising.
8. YouTube content
24Ballot uses YouTube API Services to show news videos, Shorts, and live streams from approved channels, including whether a channel is live. We read only public channel and video information through YouTube API Services; we do not access your YouTube account or any YouTube data about you, and we do not send your 24Ballot data to YouTube. Signing in to 24Ballot with Google is a separate choice, covered by the rest of this policy.
When you play a video or live stream, it runs in YouTube's own embedded player, and when you open one in the YouTube app or website, YouTube's services are used directly. In both cases YouTube and Google may collect information from your device, including by placing or reading cookies and similar technologies, under the Google Privacy Policy. Use of YouTube content is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service.
You can review which apps can access your Google account at any time in your Google security settings. We keep the public YouTube information we display (titles, thumbnails, video and channel identifiers) only as long as it is needed to show current news and live channels.
9. International transfers
Data may be processed on infrastructure located outside India depending on our hosting configuration. Where Indian law restricts the transfer of certain civic, political, or identity data, we adapt storage and processing to comply.
10. Retention
- Account and profile data — retained until you delete your account, then held in a 30-day recovery window before deletion or anonymization.
- Public content you post — retained until you delete it, moderation removes it, or your account is deleted.
- Messages — retained until deleted or your account is deleted, subject to safety and legal holds.
- Media — retained while attached to content you keep, then deleted or anonymized with that content.
- Analytics events — retained up to 24 months, aggregated or anonymized where possible.
- Diagnostics — retained 90–180 days unless needed for an active investigation.
- Moderation and legal records — retained up to 24 months, or longer where required for legal or election-compliance reasons.
11. Your rights
Depending on your location, you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you;
- Export a copy of your data — available today from Settings on the 24Ballot app;
- Correct inaccurate profile or account data, from Settings;
- Delete your account and personal data — available today from Settings (see Section 12);
- Withdraw consent for optional processing, such as notifications;
- Object to processing or complain to your relevant data-protection authority;
- Nominate another person to exercise your rights on your behalf, where India's DPDPA applies.

12. Account deletion
You can request deletion from Settings in the app. We deactivate the account immediately, start a 30-day recovery period, remove push tokens, stop notifications, and hide public profile data. After the recovery period, we permanently delete or anonymize personal data, except where retention is required for safety, fraud, dispute, audit, or legal-order compliance.
13. Children
24Ballot is intended for adults aged 18 and over. The app is not directed at children and is not available in a Kids category, because it includes civic and political user content, messaging, and location context.
14. Election law notice
24Ballot may restrict, label, delay, or remove election-related content to comply with the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (including Section 126 silence-period restrictions), Election Commission of India requirements, and any applicable court or government order.
15. Security
We use technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including access controls, HTTPS in production, rate limiting, structured logging, moderation audit logs, and error monitoring.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product, laws, or app-store requirements change. Material changes will be communicated in-app or through this page before they take effect where required.
